Mission
To encourage and support young scientists in Asia to carry out creative and transformative research.

Introduction

The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship program was initiated with the idea of supporting talented scientists at the early stage of their careers, providing long-term support to their career growth, and creating a community that promotes explorative thinking, cross-disciplinary collaboration, international exchanges, and mentorship.

The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship aims to encourage and support young scientists in Asia to carry out creative and transformative research.  The Fellowship supports early-career scientists in three fields: 1) Life Science, 2) Physical Science, and 3) Mathematics and Computer Science.  The Fellowship is designed to enable early-career researchers to freely explore their areas of interest with the funding and resources provided by the Fellowship.

The 2-year Fellowship offers to every fellow:

  • Funding: $100,000 USD awarded over two consecutive years.  The grant is disbursed to the fellow’s home institution to support his/her research.

  • Community and Network: Fellows will be able to access a community of frontier-thinking young scientists around Asia and our global network of scientists.

  • Research Empowerment: Fellowship conferences and discussions will be held annually to promote interdisciplinary dialogues and stimulate innovation.

We are particularly interested in funding projects that are:

We encourage Fellows to be bold in exploring new research frontiers otherwise would be deemed too risky or preliminary by traditional funding agencies.

  • Creative – address important scientific questions using creative approaches or methods.

  • Transformative – pursue high-risk, high-reward research that may have a transformative impact in a field.

  • Interdisciplinary – integrate knowledge, tools, perspectives, and/or collaborators across disciplines to advance innovative research at the interface.

The Fellowship Committees consist of prominent scientists across major disciplines of science covered under the fellowship program.  They are enthusiastic about supporting young scientists to realize their greatest potential.  They are involved in every aspect of the program, including setting the foundation of the Program, reviewing and selecting the Fellows.  They will also participate in activities and the mentor program to engage with the Fellows.
