Professor, International Center for Quantum Materials, School of Physics, Peking University

Research Area: Water science, Theoretical and computational physics, Non-equilibrium statistical physics

Limei Xu received her B.S. degree in Physics from Beijing Normal University in 1996 and earned her Ph.D. in Physics from Boston University in 2007. Following the completion of her doctoral studies, she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Utah, where she further developed her expertise in statistical physics and complex systems. From 2008 to 2011, she served as an Assistant Professor at the WPI–Advanced Institute for Materials Research (WPI-AIMR), Tohoku University in Japan. In 2011, she joined the faculty of the International Center for Quantum Materials (ICQM) and School of Physics at Peking University as a tenure-track Associate Professor. She was promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2015 and to Professor and Boya Distinguished Professor in 2017. She currently serves as a Professor at the International Center for Quantum Materials, Peking University. Her research is dedicated to advancing the fundamental understanding of equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical physics, soft condensed matter physics, and phase transitions in complex systems. Combining theoretical modeling with advanced computational approaches, her laboratory investigates the structure and dynamics of liquids, glass-forming systems, nucleation and crystallization processes, as well as anomalous behaviors of water and other complex fluids. Over the course of her career, Professor Xu has published extensively in leading international journals and has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Her contributions to statistical physics and soft condensed matter have earned broad recognition within the theoretical and computational physics communities. She remains actively engaged in interdisciplinary collaborations at Peking University and in the global quantum materials research community..
