Jun Liu, Ph. D.
2025 AYS Fellow - Life Science
Assistant Professor, School of Life Science at Peking University, Joint Center for Life Science at Peking University and Tsinghua University, Beijing Advanced Center of RNA Biology
Research Area: Molecular Biology, RNA epitranscriptomics, non-coding RNA, chromatin regulation, cell fate determination
Award Citation: The AYSF Committee acknowledges Jun Liu’s contribution to the discovery of novel molecular mechanisms of chromatin-associated RNA (caRNA) m6A modifications during cell fate determination and would like to support her future exploration on the roles of caRNA modifications in the contexts of stem cell differentiation, tumorigenesis, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Bio: Jun Liu received her B.S. and Ph.D. degree from Peking University. She then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago. In 2020, she jointed Peking University to begin her independent academic career. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms and biological functions of the RNA epitranscriptomics, aiming to elucidate the molecular basis by which RNA modifications and non-coding RNAs regulate chromatin function, to understand the physiological significance of specific regulatory events in cell fate determination, and to explore intervention strategies targeting RNA modifications for disease therapy. Her research findings have revealed the regulatory mechanisms by which RNA modifications modulate chromatin function-such as gene transcription and genome stability-and their critical roles in early embryonic development, stem cell fate determination, and cancer.
