Seongjun Park, Ph. D.

2025 AYS Fellow - Life Science

Associate Professor,  Seoul National University

Research Area: Brain-Machine Interfaces, Fibers, Bioelectronics, Wearable Devices, Tissue Engineering

Award Citation: The AYSF committee acknowledge his pioneer work in developing generation biomedical and neural interfaces that connect living systems with non-living systems. His future research is highly innovative and aims to create advanced bioelectronic systems that integrate with biological tissues, harmonize with body's intrinsic signals, regenerative processes, and dynamic physiological responses.

Bio: Seongjun Park received his B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Seoul National University in 2013, M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2015, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2018 under supervision of Professor Polina Anikeeva. He then worked as a postdoctoral associate in the same group for one year. In 2019, he began his academic career at Department of Bio and Brain Engineering in KAIST and moved to the Department of Transdisciplinary Innovations and Biomedical Sciences at Seoul National University as an Associate Professor in 2024. Seongjun's research focuses on Fiber-based Biomedical and Neural Interfaces and Soft Materials for Biomedical Applications. His work has been published in top journals like Nature Neuroscience, Nature Electronics, and Nature Communications. He has received MRS gold Award, Regeneron Prize, Helen Carr Peake Award, and the Young Scientist Award from the President of Korea.
