Hokuto Konno, Ph.D.

2026 AYS Fellow - Maths&CS

Associate Professor, The University of Tokyo

Research Area: Gauge theory and its applications to 4-dimensional topology

Award Citation: The AYSF Committee acknowledges Dr. Hokuto Konno's highly innovative results on smooth 4-manifolds and their diffeomorphism groups, obtained using variational gauge theory. AYSF would like to support his program to develop symplectic Lefschetz theory, and variational Floer homology, for families of 4-manifolds.

Bio: Hokuto Konno is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on gauge theory and four-dimensional topology and geometry, with a particular emphasis on families of 4-manifolds and diffeomorphism groups. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2019 under the supervision of Mikio Furuta. Before taking up his current position, he was a postdoctoral researcher at RIKEN and later spent two years as a visiting researcher at MIT. His honors include the Geometry Prize of the Mathematical Society of Japan (2024), the Spring Prize of the Mathematical Society of Japan (2025), and the JSPS Prize (2026).
